Japanese Design vs. English Design

Included in the download are two options for how the full-screen Japanese typography is handled:

  • Japanese Design: all of the full-screen Japanese typography (such as title designs) is subtitled in English.
  • English Design: most of the full-screen Japanese typography (such as title designs) is completely replaced by full-screen English overlays (with designs that mimic those in the VHS tapes of the TV series). The two exceptions in which standard subtitles were used instead are:
    1. The title screen for Episode 25’: Air, because of its unique design.
    2. The Silence screen, because of its unique combination of effects (blurring, shrinking, and fading).

I completely understand the appeal of choosing Japanese Design, but if you watch the TV series using the subtitles I made for it followed by the movie using the English Design option, it ties the whole experience together. And for those who can’t read Japanese, towards the end of the film it also simulates the subtle impact that the montage of episode titles would have if you could read Japanese.
